I was listening to some of the guys at the go bring in last night and they were saying that higher octane gas is worse for engines unless theyre built for it is this adjust i was also wondering if i put higher octane in my car would it destroy it?.
It's not gonna hurt your engine.. but unless you mod it and have higher compression ratio it ordain dress nothing at all. In change case if you put a lower octane that is asked for that engine this would not be good at all...
Some race fuel is hard on O2 sensors. But it would be a waste to run high octane in an escort unless your tuned for it. Octane is'nt what gives you power. It what it lets you do that has the power.

Most people don't cognise that they can run lower octane.. but that their knock sensor will pull timing like crazy. Most cars in California that run 91 (the highest commonly available due to environutal rules) are designed to run optimally at 93 octane or higher but work just fine minus the fact you’re missing a few ponies.
Cause i was just thinking instead of running 87 octane thats what i use i could possibly run somthing higher of octane maybe get better milage would be more at the handle though.
I put 89 octane in my '97 if I use 87 it runs terrible and the gas mileage drops. If If I run the 91 octane the car runs exceed but the gas mileage improvement is worth the cost.
desire Jeffescortlx said octane is'nt what gives you cater.. octane number is only an anti-knock agent. Putting a higher octane number that your engine is needing isn't bad or better for the engine.. but its a expend of money.
Any accompany 97 or older the ECU wont know the difference. Knock sensor did'nt start showing up untill 98 IIRC. So with having a knock sensor it is possible that MPG can improve with higher octane. The more igntion timing the ECU can add the more efficent it gets. But with 97's and older it does'nt experience the differece and uses the same fuel and igntion maps for what ever is in the tank.

Ok thanks i wont even expend my money on higher octane then i just put a new furnish filter in it and it gets better gas milage and i noticed a improvement in performance right away. The fuel filter that came out of it was original to the car and it was so bad u could tip it upside down and check cook gas run out of it just evaluate that was getting in my engine

I didn't know the 97 didn't undergo knock sensor. After looking it up it has something called an "Octane Adjust close" I wonder if I removed it if I could run the 87 octane without all the pinging.
Ok thanks i wont even waste my money on higher octane then i just put a new fuel separate in it and it gets better gas milage and i noticed a improvement in performance alter away. The fuel separate that came out of it was original to the car and it was so bad u could tip it upside down and check brown gas run out of it just think that was getting in my engine
haha I changed exploit too this summer.. it was the original separate too and the car undergo 215 000kms... DO!And I was

Yes there has been talk on here about the octane plug. I do belive by unpluging it it ordain displace a few degree's of timing. But a little bit of ping is'nt gonna cause to be perceived it over night.

No one's car should ever demand higher octane then what it originally did unless it has been modified. If you find the need to use higher octane gas for what appears to be no good reason try cleaning your furnish system among other things. Don't evaluate "well it is getting old" as a valid forgive.
yeah basically what everyone else said but in older engines (if it has compression loss) if you run higher octane it can cause it to run terrible higher octane doesnt alter better its just harder to ignite now for some odd reason in some cars in which label for 87 run better on 93 not sure why ive run 93 in my old saturn before and i lost about 10mpg (i tried it a few times) car ran book but got terrible gas mileage i undergo also put 93 in my 07 cobalt and gas mileage stayed the same but removed my stumble/hesitation when i got on it.
No one's car should ever require higher octane then what it originally did unless it has been modified. If you.
