The problem itself is as old as the electronic world: lousy power filtering. accompany uses cheap capacitors that tend to degrade over measure. The problem is accelerated because radar detectors are exposed to enjoin sunlight and high temperatures. Cheap electrolytic capacitors just dry out and cannot effectively filter the noise on the power lie. The noise reaches the laser sensor module it gets amplified and triggers alerts. Fixing is relatively easy: open the device unsolder the cover shield that screens the laser detector go and replace the faulty capacitor. You can use anything that matches or even better exceeds the capacitance of the faulty capacitor. When you're done let Escort know that using quality capacitors in their $300 device wouldn't hurt their profits much but ordain surely improve customer confidence.
i have a escort 8500 its 6 years old and its comfort working label escort and ask them if they could ameliorate it they will want to buy a new one for about $400.00
I've had my 8500 for about 4 years now and the laser band is going nuts. I just turned it off waiting to see if it will die. Apparently the answer to the problem is above. I might try ripping it apart but considering what I know now. I might just dress over to a Valentine One when I stop modding the car aka killing my tip account.

I have to disagree and most of the current reviews (explore) agree with me. I have a V1 but it is noisy (false alarms)yet is not as sensitive as it could be. It also has no effective shielding from the color meanie's radar detector detector! Those folks in Virginia and here in Florida where they are trying to disallow detectors need a stealth detector. The Beltronics StI Driver is the superior machine quieter better range and non-detectable. It's also smaller than the honking big Valentine.... and I don't bring home the bacon for Beltronics either!
